As Editor in Chief of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture’s student-run publication Galt, I led a team of about 20 students through the inception, design, editing, and printing of the publication’s third issue, “Burning.” The book’s theme initially focused on architecture’s relationship to the climate crisis, but quickly expanded to encompass the many overlapping crises we faced that year. The book, and it’s supplemental zine project, here & now, was published by Riverside Architectural Press.

here&now
In June 2020 we appended the third issue of our student publication with this supplemental zine project. Students and alumni responded overwhelmingly with anonymous or credited writings that called out the othering, erasure, systemic racism, and the evident barriers in our architectural education. The project was led by Annika Babra, Jamie Cheung, and Chi Chi Ogbu.

Watercooler Talk
At the outset of the Covid pandemic, our student-run publication put our printed matter on hold and initiated a month-long, online project. Once a week, we would release a prompt based on the evolving situation and headlines. At the end of the week we shared student responses—creating a dialogue between the now scattered student body. The project highlighted the importance of the written word in helping us navigate massive change, while also providing a forum to connect over shared experiences.
